Take care, protect the Perspex art

The method of printing is highly durable, but you should be careful when hanging Perspex art.  The image is printed on to the font side of a piece of 5mm thick clear Perspex, which is protected by a second 5mm thick piece of Perspex.  All the same you should be careful not to scratch the image or the Perspex surfaces.

The Perspexart is packaged with the wall fittings attached and protective film over the surfaces of the Perspex.  Leave the protective film on until you finally secure the Perspex to the wall.

Before you begin hanging Perspex art

Choose a suitable place to hang your Perspex art. Is the Perspex art a feature piece or is it part of an arrangement? Creating a group of FlockPhotography on a wall is an excellent way to create an interesting focal point in a room, however, it requires planning.  There are some general rules that will help you get the right arrangement of wall art for your living space.

  • It is always best to try arrangements of wall art on the floor first before you get the hammer out.
  • Tightly spaced arrangements should have the pieces of art spaced about 5 cms or 2 inches apart.
  • Normal spacing for wall art arrangements is 10 to 15cms or 4 to 6 inches apart (about the size of your hand with your fingers closed).

Height of hanging Perspex art

FlockPhotography Perspex art should be hung so that the centre of the image is at standing eye level, about 150 cms or 60 inches.  In living and dining rooms images can be hung at eye level when seated.  To hang Perspex art:

  1. Measure the distance between the top and bottom of the Perspex and divide by two.
  2. From the floor, measure up the wall to approximately 150cms or 60 inches and make a light pencil mark.
  3. From the pencil mark, measure upward and downward the distance recorded in step 1 and make a second light pencil mark.
  4. These marks are the levels at which the Perspex fastenings should be attached.

To fix the Perspex art to the wall

  1. Unscrew the metal fittings from the Perspex.
  2. Ask your friend to hold the Perspex so that the middle of the picture is aligned with the marks on the wall.  Fine tune where you want the Perspex.
  3. Hold the Perspex flush against the wall. Mark lightly with the pencil the centre of each of the pre-drilled holes in one of the Perspex pieces.  You will need to use a spirit level to make sure that the Perspex is level.
  4. Ask your friend to put the Perspex down when completed.
  5. At this point you could just drill the four holes.  Tap the wall plugs in the holes and then screw the chamber of the fittings into the wall.

Because there is enough play in the holes in the Perspex when you screw the front to the back you can make sure that the art is level by using the spirit level and adjusting the 4 screws.

Or alternately,

  1. Using the marks on the wall that you traced from the Perspex in step 2 above. Take the Perspex away and drill the bottom left marking ONLY. Tap the wall plug in and screw the barrel of the fitting to the wall using the screwdriver.  Once fixed to the wall attach the Perspex, but don’t tighten the screw all the way.  Use this fitting as a pivot and rotate the Perspex art until level (check using the spirit level).  Check the marks you made on the wall and adjust accordingly now that the Perspex is fixed in one corner.
  2. Now you can drill with certainty the other three holes for the fittings.

Before you finally fix the Perspex art to the wall take the protective film off the font and back of the Perspex sheets.  When screwing the Perspex art on to the fitting be careful not to scratch the surface.
